Where the seawind is at home
Landscape Impressions
East Frisia, a small region on the north German coast. It is part of the state of Lower Saxony and is located directly on the border with the Netherlands.
There is always a light wind blowing across the fields and meadows. Black and white cows graze on the pastures while the sheep stay on the dikes.
Rivers move through the flat land and follow the tides. Surrounded by the dikes, which is to protect the country from flooding. Their destination is the North Sea. When the water withdraws, it shows a new face. For a few hours, the waves are silent and release the Watt, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2009.
In good weather you can see the islands that you can reach by ferry or on foot across the mudflats. The herring loggers drove past them into the open sea, but time is long gone. Today there are the little crabships that still tell about life at and with the sea. They still driving out every today, came back to anchor with the freshly caught cargo in the small fishing villages.
Brickstonehouses and typical "Fehnhouses" adorn the landscape. On the "Fehn" ( a typical landscape) the residential areas are criss-crossed with canals, which we call "Wieken". Isolated moor areas still bear witness to the tradition of peat cutting.
This is my home country ,where I was born and grew up.
