 "Pot watcher"

I sat on the terrace, far from my  homeland, with a handful of beans in my lap. I had harvested them from my tiny garden and began to "string" them, threading them onto a long string. As the thick needle pushed through the pod’s skin and it took its place beside the others, I became deeply aware of how strongly I am connected to such traditions. It is precisely these culinary memories that link generations, ground us, and give us a sense of home.

Join me at the kitchen table and take a peek into the cooking pots of East Frisia.

The Saint Nicholas Man

We bake a Stutenkerl and make children's eyes light up when it stands in front of the filled plate on St. Nicholas morning.
